History of Libraries around the world.

After reading the article by Edward reid- Smith I felt more informed about the development of libraries throughout the world. European countries contributed to the development of the philosophy of library services. US and Britain introduced vocational education and training for librarians to serve the increasinly illiterate population. This flowed to the Australian colonies . in the 19th century education was seen as a way to improve the status of professionals .. including librarians. It was seen as vital to have "work experience" in libraries to really understand the role of a librarian.
In the 1890's the library profession was born in Australia, and the AIL in 1938.
