Principal Support and Evidence based Practice

As I've mentioned before, my school is very lucky to have strong support by not only the headmaster but senior staff. I think this would make a huge difference to your role if you did not have support. The perceptions of a TL role is interesting ... what others think can be quite fascinating and what they would like you to do too !! So having clearly defined roles is important.Yet we need to earn that respect by doing a great job.Oberg says we need to be visible. Todd (2003) focusses on Evidence Based practice. The role of accountability is a hot topic. Some find this threatening, yet it represents a way to show how our practise impacts student achievement. Kramer & Diekman suggest that this should infact be part of the schools learning converstaion. This leads into Inquiry based research, learning from a variety of sources to construct meaning.
The Lonsdale report (2003) was a review of the research literature on school libraries and student achievement in Australia. The context in which TL's operate has changed significantly over the past decades, and so there has been  achange in TL role as a result. The digital information explosion has had the most impact. The TL has a pivotal role in preparing students to become life long learners. What a challenge !!!
