MASH UPS - A combination of more than one online data source. it is used to create a new digital object or service.
SOCIAL NETWORKING - The extension of relationships in an online setting. Most people choose to do this to keep in touch with family and friends. Facebook is most popular, 901million active users!!. ( Followed by You Tube, Blogspot, Linkedin, Twitter, Wordpress, Tumblr.)

It engages employees, gives opportunity for internal dialogue and discussion, allows expertise to be found and knowledge shared.It is only possible if it comes from the "top" of management, and if it is clear to all what is expected and what the site will achieve.

In my workplace .... benefits could be sharing of information, a place to find answers and discuss issues. Community members could feel more involved. Photos and videos could be shared.

RSS - a live feed of news or updates from a website.
GAMING & 3D VIRTUAL WORLDS - multiple players can engage in games in virtual worlds.
Second Life is a virtual worls we are exploring for this course. It takes a lot of time to orient yourself. making the avatar was easy but finding things is not. A colleague and I spent 75 minutes trying to do this last night !!! But we found the uni on the website ... so mission achieved for now ... oh and we can walk, run, FLY!!! and sit ... in a variety of poses !! LOL!!!

and was interested that studies have shown that being immersed in a digital environment has 3 benefits ...1. "allowing multiple perspectives"
                 2. "situated learning"
                 3. "transfer" skills
It also builds confidence as you don't have to be yourself .. if you're not good at something you can have a go and "fail" safely because it's not real.

VoIP - eg Skype, low cost, estimated 20 million users at peak time !!
WEB CONFERENCING - I've used when I had a craft business ... excellent tool. It got people together despite geography and mobility and sharing of great ideas and information!!
