Bennett, N. (2001). Power, Structure and Culture
There are many parts to an organisation, members, who have a purpose, with various resources to offer and all within structures and given tasks that they need to perform. The structures, whether physical, task, work or structural relate to each other and affect how decisions are made. Sometimes there are power relationships. There are also cultures within an organisation...ie: the way we do things around here. Shared values are important to a school, or any organisation working together to achieve a shared goal, and solve problems. Each school has a distinctive culture.Beare, H. Caldwell, B.J. Millikan, R.H.(1989). A Model for Managing an Excellent School.
Schools have differing philosophy's and goals that educational needs and programmes are developed from. They need purpose, values, management, leadership and visionSchool reform and change is intrinsically linked to leadership and management styles. There are some great values and philosophies at my school. But how do we cope with change ??
Tribus, M. Quality Management in education- the Journal for quality and participation 16.1 Jan/Feb 1993:12

- develop an awareness of why it is necessary.
- establish goals, objectives
- understand what the change entails
- choose sensible first steps
