I'm loving this course!! Finally I get to sit down and try to work out the social media sites I'd never found time to work out ... and now it is legitimate time for uni!! I am having trouble working it out ... tempted to ask my 13 year old who would get it in a snap but then she'd want to be on it too!! Oh well, keep reading and asking questions .. hope I'm not the only one!! So if social networking sites are designed to facilitate interaction between members who share the same interests ... maybe I'll start one that tells the digital clueless how to do it!! LOL!!
Seriously,I''ve found the stats on how technology is growing interesting... in 2005 71% of those surveyed in the OCLC's Sharing Privacy and Trust paper, used search engines, but in 2007 90% of people surveyed were using search engines. Similarly, comparing people using blogs, in 2005 there were 16%, and in 2007 46% people using blogs.

It amazed me to read that there are over 22 BILLION web pages on the internet today... but not surprising in a way as it is so easy to connect with both friends, family and strangers who have similar interests. I was interested too that 20% of the general population have created a web page. So it stands to reason that social media is now an accepted way to communicate... we've made the shift from face to face to online communities.
